Mr. Giuseppe Castronovo is President of IAPB Italy as well as President of Sicilian Regional Council of Italian Blind and Visual Impaired People Union and President of the Regional Braille Printing Works of Sicily. He is also Member of the National Council of Italian Blind and Visual Impaired People Union; Vice-President of the National Association of Civil Victims of War; Vice-President of the European Commission for Instruction of EBU; member of the Council of National Federation of Institutions for the Blinds.

Mr. Castronovo began his career as lawyer; he spent his life to improve the social, cultural and economic level of the Italian Blinds, fighting to create in the social consciences the culture of prevention of blindness and visual rehabilitation. He promoted several national laws for the prevention of blindness and visual rehabilitation, just two of these are: the Law no. 284/1997 which funds the IAPB Italy and the Law no. 291/2003 which funds the National Pole for services and research for prevention of blindness and visual impaired people rehabilitation.

The President of the Italian Republic awarded him the merit medal for public health.
