AMD Week 2007: The Face of AMD
AMD Week September 23 to 30, 2007. During AMD week each year, AMDAI member organizations and patients
around the world mobilize to create awareness of AMD through media
campaigns, public activities, and community outreach.
AMD Week provides an anchor for us to work towards three goals:
- Generating awareness and understanding of age-related macular degeneration.
- Promoting the importance of education, early detection, knowledge of treatment and rehabilitation options, with the objective of increasing the number of people over age 50 who receive regular eye examinations.
- Preserving vision and improving the quality of life of individuals affected by AMD and increasing the percentage of people with AMD who receive treatment and rehabilitation.
Our theme for this year's campaign, "The Face of AMD", features AMD patients' testimonies and experiences from around the world. We aim to bring more depth and a human face to public understanding of AMD. "Who best to speak of AMD than people living with AMD themselves?" Stories will be published here during AMD week!
Visit the Patient Stories page to read about the experiences of others.
